Mechanical Workshop Technician

Endoenergy Systems Private Limited is a start-up business based on fundamental R&D carried out by the founder Professor Virk in Europe for addressing the needs of the global ageing society and the core business is the design, development and testing of wearable assistive exoskeletons that are able to support the daily living activities of healthy elderly persons. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Workshop Technician to support the overall designing, testing, perfecting and maintaining machinery and equipment within the Company as it develops. The role will also involve supporting the engineering team for the manufacturing of specialized mechanisms to realise the newly designed exoskeletons.

Job duties

To provide engineering staff with skilled mechanical workshop support for design and manufacture of components, support jigs and new equipment. Design and manufacture of different parts and tools to enable prototyping of specialised components in-house in an efficient manner. This may include design and manufacture of associated jigs, fixtures, clamps or moulds. Detailed tasks include:

Design, manufacture, repair, assemble and commissioning of rigs and equipment.
Operation, maintenance of plant, equipment and machinery.
Production of technical drawings.
Identify improvements to manufacturing process and workflow.
Providing advice in relation with component design, material selection and manufacturing, etc.
Routine servicing of tools.
Attend breakdowns, identify faults and problem solve.
Ensure all work is undertaken to high-quality standards.
Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.

Required Skills

Knowledge of mechanical engineering and materials.
Understanding of engineering drawings.
Understanding of manufacturing processes.
Good communication skills.
Problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
Knowledge of Health & Safety issues.

We are seeking Embedded Engineers with a strong passion for robotics to develop wearable assistive exoskeletons based on knowhow developed in Europe via a collaborative Indian-UK venture. All applicants should be qualified with a 1st class degree or a 2:1 degree in Embedded Systems Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline and have research and/or industrial experience of working in related domains. It is essential to be highly motivated to learn and develop new skills designing the embedded systems for developing the needed advanced robotic systems.

The following positions and salary packages are available based on experience:

Technical Manager: 10+ years’ experience needed. Salary 70k+/ monthly.
Principal Engineers: 8-10 years’ experience needed. Salary 50k-60k/monthly.
Senior Engineers: 5-8 years’ experience needed. Salary 40k-50k/monthly.
Junior Engineers: 3-5 years’ experience needed. Salary 30k-40k / monthly.
Graduate Engineers: 0-2 years’ experience needed. Salary 20k-30k / monthly.

Successful applicants will become part of the Indian Engineering Team working closely with the other engineers located in India, UK and other countries. The Indian team may be expected to align working hours with other collaborating partners’ office hours for maximising collaborations between the Indian-international teams via strong IT links. Some travel between the India-based and other country-based engineers is expected and hence applicants should be willing to travel for carrying out dedicated activities.

Masters and/or PhD qualification in appropriate disciplines together with relevant industrial experience will be expected for the senior engineering roles. The senior roles will also require wider knowledge and experience of engineering and robotics related areas. This needs to be demonstrated in the applications submitted.

The following are essential requirements for all Embedded Engineer roles:

BEng/BTech in Embedded Systems Engineering or related discipline.
Proven programming and software design and development for embedded systems with a strong knowledge of C and Assembler.
Experience in working with real-time operating systems, in the Embedded Linux environment.
A strong understanding for real-time embedded systems (RTOS – e.g. Nuttx, FreeRTOS etc.) written in C.
Experience in integrating hardware and software using data buses and protocols such as CAN, EtherCAT, SPI, I2C, RS-232, Modbus.
A strong understanding of electronic circuits and PCB design and interfacing electrical systems.
Knowledge of specialist simulation tools such as SPICE and CAD packages (e.g. Altium Designer, OrCAD, Eagle).
Confident approach to reading hardware data sheets, following schematics, register level programming of peripherals.
Hands-on approach with good manual skills for tasks such as soldering, wiring, electrical systems assembly and integration, etc.
Familiar with code maintainability and quality standards, for example, MISRA C, validation tools such as Lint and profiling tools.
Contribute to R&D teams as needed to design and develop needed embedded solutions.
Support and collaborate with team members in India, UK and other countries on technical developments as per workplan and produce documents, presentations, project plans, etc. as required.
Strong communication in English (spoken and written).

As many of the following as possible are desirable/essential, especially for the senior embedded engineering roles:

MSc/PhD in Embedded Engineering, Robotics or related discipline or extensive industrial experience
Good analysis skills for detailed modeling and simulation of complex scenarios.
Experience of embedded software engineering and development (specification, design, implementation, optimisation, testing, bug fixing, delivery).
Knowledge of classical, modern and intelligent control systems theory applied to robotics (linear and non-linear systems).
Design and develop high-density custom PCBs.
Knowledge of designing wired and wireless communications strategies.
Knowledge of Matlab and micro-ROS.
A good grasp of planning for robotics, machine learning and perception and sensing for robot guidance.
Test, troubleshoot problems, adopts remedial measures and finally commissioning of experimental prototype systems.
Knowledge of managing and building complex software projects using C Make.
Proven track record of successful application of software to engineering solutions and systems.
Experience of creating user-friendly user interfaces.
Knowledge of relevant standards.

ROS Developers

(Engineers and Interns)

Endoenergy Systems Private Limited is a UK-Indian initiative aimed at designing and developing wearable assistive exoskeletons to support the normal daily living activities of the elderly. We are looking for ROS Developers (Engineers and Interns) with strong practical competencies to accelerate the impact of our work in new and challenging real-world application scenarios. Candidates will be responsible for developing and/or researching robot components and sub-systems with a focus on ROS-centered design and how these may be integrated into wearable exoskeleton robots.

Role responsibilities for Engineers

Contribute to design and development of ROS2-based solutions for wearable assistive exoskeleton systems and products
Work with micro-controllers/development boards and specialist embedded engineers to develop the overall software
Support technical developments as needed and produce documents, presentations, project plans, etc., as required
Test and validate designs/ solutions developed
Troubleshoot issues which might occur to design necessary remedial steps in the various sub-systems of the robots (hardware and software)
Collaborate with various engineering teams to maintain coherent approach to robot system development within the company and in the external partnerships.

Person specification for Engineers

Excellent first degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
3+ years professional software development experience involving embedded or mechatronic hardware in a multidisciplinary engineering team
Deep understanding and experience of ROS using C++ and/or Python in Linux platforms
Knowledge of using Gazebo simulation to test robotic designs in virtual environments
Experience with microROS and/or ROS based development with micro-controller
Familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred)
Comfortable with using electronic lab test equipment to troubleshoot systems
Understand and be able to implement details of specific technical implementations for realising working robot systems such as robot kinematics and dynamics, motion control, 2D/3D computer vision (OpenCV), localisation and navigation, motion control, machine learning (Matlab and/or Python), Neural networks and perception and situation awareness
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
Good time-management skills
